Giant & Timber Bamboo Plants Grown in Texas
At ArkLaTex Bamboo, we grow a range of giant and timber Phyllostachys varieties in our groves in Texarkana, including Vivax, Nigra ‘Bory,’ Nigra ‘Henon,’ Bambusoides, and Semiarundinaria fastuosa, among others. Each variety offers something a little different — fast-growing privacy screens, striking black or green culms for ornamental plantings, or sturdy poles suited for building and garden projects. Whether you’re looking for a living privacy fence, an accent planting, or bamboo poles for a project, our groves are grown right here in Texas soil.
From One-Gallon Starts to Mature Groves
Every grove on our property has a story. Most of our original stock began in 2008 as small 1-gallon container plants, hand-selected and planted one at a time. Two of our Phyllostachys — a viridis and a Vivax — came from a “grove grooming” event with the Texas Bamboo Society in Porter, Texas, where we dug and replanted them ourselves. A few more varieties joined us during a cross-country work trip, after a stop at a bamboo farm in Tennessee turned into an unplanned addition to the family. What started as a handful of small plants has grown, quite literally, into the mature groves we harvest from today.
A Family Business
ArkLaTex Bamboo has always been a family operation, and in 2026 that took on a new meaning as the next generation started helping out around the farm — harvesting poles, potting new starts, and keeping the groves maintained. It’s become one of the favorite parts of running this nursery.
