Phyllostachys vivax ‘Aureocaulis’ — Golden Timber is one of the most striking ornamental bamboos available, prized for its tall, timber-sized culms and brilliant golden-yellow coloration. A vigorous running bamboo, it can reach impressive heights of 30–50 feet in ideal conditions, with culms often 2–4 inches in diameter. The combination of its upright growth habit and luminous yellow canes makes it a standout specimen for groves, privacy screens, or dramatic landscape focal points.
The culms of ‘Aureocaulis’ are typically a rich golden-yellow, often accented by irregular green striping or occasional solid green culms that add contrast and visual interest. As the plant matures, the color intensifies in full sun, especially when grown in well-drained, fertile soil with adequate moisture. Its large, lush green leaves create a soft canopy that contrasts beautifully with the bold coloration of the canes, giving it a tropical yet architectural presence.
